Where Alton Road and 16th Street meet, a vertically mounted luminous sign can be found in front of the entrance to one of the hippest places in Miami: Bodega. One can only imagine what is hiding behind its façade.
The line reaches out the door at 9:30 in the evening; orders are picked up at a metallic, shimmering food truck that fills part of the restaurant.
Above the food truck, a board flaunts a board with the words “MAKE TACOS NOT WAR.”
The menu includes various tacos, burritos, as well as antojitos.
Fitting to the loud, buoyant atmosphere, colorful bar tables and stools adorn Bodega with many searching eyes looking out for the much desired free tables.
Even long waits for a table are quickly forgotten when tasting the food. The combination of fresh ingredients, healthy spiciness, and the mouthwatering taste make Bodega an extraordinarily delicious place.
From 11 pm, people flow through a port-a-potty door on the side of the restaurant, without coming back out. The flow proves that the catacombs must hide something that the non-locals know nothing about. That an inconspicuous port-a-potty door on the side of a restaurant opens into another area, seems absurd. Even more so, when you open the doors and pass by three urinals and enter a South American style club with hip-hop music.
A place where the true Miami Nightlife takes place – without tourists, without sticky cocktails, but rather with a lot of tequila, Corona, and gin tonics.
